How do I make a kiss sign on MacBook Air?

Many symbols have easy keyboard shortcuts.

For example:

™ = option-2
• = option-8
® = option-r
© = option-g

For others, if you can't use an HTML code or a unicode, you need to use the character viewer to select and insert the character. Once you enable the character viewer, it is available for display in most applications. To enable the character viewer:

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Language & Text, and then click Input Sources.
Open the Input Sources pane of Language & Text preferences

  • Select the Keyboard & Character Viewer checkbox.
Then, in any application, you can show the character viewer by choosing "Special Characters…" from the Edit menu, or type Command-Option-T. Here, you can select a lot of fun characters:

    ☺ ☻ ☹ ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦ ♤ ♧ ♡ ♢ ☀ ☁ ☂ ☃ ✈ ☞
    and a whole lot more.
Finally, if you enable the keyboard viewer by clicking, "Show Keyboard & Character Viewer in menu bar" in the Keyboard System Preferences pane, you can open the character viewer from an icon at the top-right of your Mac (it's menu bar) as well. Another nice benefit is that you can open the keyboard viewer, which will show you which characters will be typed. So, if you show the keyboard viewer and then hold down the Option key, you can see every character that you can type by holding down Option when you type that letter. This, of course, works with combinations of keys, such as holding down Shift+Option.

I'm buying my first iPad and thinking about the Apple® - iPad® Air with Wi-Fi - 32GB - Space.?

The answer to you question depends on how much you would like to keep stored on your iPad. For instance, if you like to take a lot of photographs or video you might want to consider the larger storage size. Some people like to use the iPad for the same reasons they use a computer and they would opt for the larger storage. Keep in mind that as you use your new iPad you will discover more creative things that you can do. If you are a very creative person and can spend a little extra, go for the 64gb. Running a little short on cash, grab the 32gb iPad. If you have a personal computer you can take advantage of transferring you information directly to you computer or sending it up to iCloud for storage. Don't have a personal computer? Just store your creativity in the cloud.
Think about it in a different way, have you run out of space after a day of shooting your favorite scenes with your phone? Compare storage and you'll have a good idea of just how much you use. Either way I'm sure you will enjoy your new iPad every day.

My girlfriend cuts herself and I think I make it worse?

Cutting is the physical expression of hidden mental pain. Children may begin cutting or engaging in other forms of self-harm when their mental pain reaches a level that they can no longer deal with. While some children may find positive ways of coping with such pain, others seek negative coping methods including self-harm or drug use. Mental pain can be the result of built-up stress, past traumatic events, hurt feelings, rejection by peers, abandonment by significant others, or other life stressors.

Is My Child Just Trying to Get Attention?

If your child cuts in places that you can see and does not try to hide their wounds, then it is likely that, consciously or subconsciously, they are trying to let you know they are in pain. If they cut, or threaten to cut, in front of you, then they are likely crying for help. If your child has been hiding their cuts for a long period of time and has not told anyone about it, then they are likely trying to deal with their pain privately and are not seeking attention.

Why Do Children Cut?

This behavior, while it may appear to have no benefit, may actually provide several means to cope. I know what you are thinking: cutting hurts, right? Not for the cutter; for them, it actually releases pain. It allows the person who cuts to express how they are feeling on the inside by letting it outside. The chemical reactions that go on when people cut themselves make the behavior addictive. Once the person who cuts is used to dealing with pain in this way, it is hard for them to choose alternative coping methods. When a child who cuts becomes upset, they may go to the behavior as automatically as a person with alcoholism would turn to drinking to deal with a stressful day.

What Not to Do

It is important not to label self-harming behavior as “bad” or tell your child that they are doing something “wrong.” This kind of reaction will only make the child feel ashamed and desire to cut more to get rid of those negative feelings. Telling your child, “Just stop it,” is just as ineffective. Tell your child that you understand they are going through some difficult things, and that you want to find a way to help them.

Getting Help

Often when we ask teens, “What’s wrong?” they will invariably respond, “Nothing.” Many teens have a hard time opening up, especially to their parents. This is partially because it’s just not “cool,” or because they have a hard time bringing up certain topics our of fear that they will be misunderstood or get in trouble. It is important that they have someone who they are comfortable talking to, whether it is a family member, a friend, or a therapist. When looking for a therapist, it is important to find one whom your child will feel comfortable with so that your child can learn to release their pain in a healthy way.

Some capabilities that make for an excellent Wi-Fi router include great throughput speeds, good range, easy set up and manageability, a decent feature set, and, of course, fair pricing. The ten routers that follow strike the best balance among all our criteria.
A wireless router is the hub of your home or business network. In a nutshell, a router delivers a single Internet connection to other devices on the network, through either wired Ethernet or wireless connectivity. Some routers, targeted at novice users, are easy to set up, while others take a little more know-how. Routers also vary in the throughput they can crank out, depending on the antenna configuration and the hardware inside.
Routers also often provide additional capabilities, such as USB ports for attaching an external drive or printer and then sharing those devices on a network, built-in firewalls to protect against invading Internet threats, and services such as UPnP and DLNA to allow streaming multimedia content throughout the network.
Some Wi-Fi routers go even further, allowing you to set up access for guests to connect to your wireless network and use your Internet service, while controlling or restricting their access to resources like files and printers. You can also use a router's QoS (quality of service) feature to give priority to the type of network traffic most important to you, be it VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), video, or even file-sharing. Some can police what your children access on the Internet, and just about all can restrict which devices can connect to your network via a feature called MAC filtering.
Below you'll find short summaries of the top 10 routers we've tested. To read more about any of the routers (including throughput testing data), click through to the full review. To get more information on the type of router you need, read How to Buy a Wireless Router.

How to solve “This webpage has a redirect loop” error in Google Chrome

Today I faced a problem with Google Chrome (5.0.375.70). When I try to login Gmail, I got the error of This webpage has a redirect loop error instead of GMail Login or Inbox. It also suggested to clear the Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem.
So I thought of documenting this to help Computer noobs to get an idea of how to get it done. This is basically how to clear the cookies of a particular site.
Here is my error message screenshot.
(Click the picture to enlarge)
How to clear the cookies to solve this issue. You can either clear all cookies in your browser or cookies for the web site which you face problem. Here I am clearing cookies for my web site www.google.com, to get my GMail working fine.
Step – 1: Go to Google Chrome Tool menu (Spanner icon in top right corner) -> Options -> Under the Hood -> Content Settings… -> Cookies -> Show cookies and other site data…
Step – 2: Now you should get a window listing all domains which have stored cookies in your browser. Enter your web site which reports error in Search text box; on the fly your web pages will be filtered. In my case it is google.com. Now select Remove All button; which should clear all cookies for these web pages. The below screenshot shows this.

Step – 3: Now again go to your web site which reported error, you should get it done this time :-)

Laptop screen blacks out randomly

Laptop screen blacks out randomly

A couple weeks ago my laptop screen started turning off randomly. It took me a while to figure out that the computer was still running, the screen just shut off. Closing and reopening the lid turns it back on, sometimes for the rest of the time my computer is on, sometimes just for a few seconds. There is apparently no way at all to trigger it, it just happens.

I hooked it up to an external monitor (and set it to duplicate the screen), and the external monitor doesn't shut off when the laptop screen does, so I know it's not a video card issue. I've also run full scans with Malwarebytes and MSE, so I'm sure it's not a virus/malware problem. Also, I was able to make the screen turn back on by changing how to use the dual monitor setup with the other monitor connected. (Changing from "duplicate desktop" to "extend desktop" and vice versa) Which means either my LCD screen or backlight or something is messed up, or else my computer randomly thinks the screen is closing for some reason (since it's just set to turn off the screen when the lid closes, not shut down or anything). And if it thought the screen was being closed, I'm pretty sure it would come back on as soon as I moved the screen a bit, and wouldn't have to completely close and reopen it to correct the issue. For these reasons, I'm fairly certain it's an LCD-related hardware issue, but I really don't know how to be sure.

So I have two questions:
1) can anyone help me confirm/correct my theory about what's going wrong (and tell me how to fix it?), and
2) as a short-term workaround, is there any way I can create a shortcut on my desktop that can be clicked to refresh the screen? Not like an f5 refresh, I mean to totally refresh the whole screen like what happens when changing screen resolutions. Because that seems to bring it back, and would be easier/faster than having to keep closing and opening the lid.

Also: I never get any errors related to this, and device manager doesn't show any problems with anything. I suppose Event Manager could have info about it, but I have no idea where to look in there.

Thanks!

Proxy issues

If the browser seems to take a long time to load a website or search, it may be configured to access pages through a supported web proxy.
These steps will change your proxy settings, potentially disabling your web access. Use the below steps only if you can't connect to the Internet and you are sure you need a proxy to do so. Consult your network administrator if you're unsure about what settings to use.
  1. Click the network icon network icon in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Select Settings and find the "Internet connection" section on the Settings page that appears.
  3. For most connections, make sure the Allow proxies for shared networks box in the General section is selected. If you select this option, all profiles on your Chromebook will use the proxy settings set for a network.
  4. Click the network you're using.
  5. Select Network options from the menu.
  6. In the dialog that appears, click the Proxy tab.
  7. Configure your proxy settings.
Note: "Proxy-authorization"-enabled proxies are not currently supported.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Changing an audio files length. Help!?

Gallery, video editor and other photo apps

The gallery on the S4 zoom is the standard TouchWiz Gallery, which is very capable. It has several view modes - Albums (the basic one), but also Time, Locations, People and Favorites, which help you sort through your photos.
The size of the thumbnails can be adjusted with a pinch zoom or with the lens ring. The lens ring can also be used to zoom in on photos.
You can swipe right to reveal a pane with all the folders, which helps navigate multiple folders with photos (you can pick multiple photos from multiple folders at once). One option advanced photographers will appreciate is the picture details popup, which shows things like focal length, ISO, aperture, shutter speed and so on.

Gallery will automatically pull photos from your Picasa account (now folded into Google+).
The app also offers two ways to annotate your photos. One turns the photo into a virtual Polaroid and lets you write a note on the empty space. The other is non-destructive and saves the scribbled label away from the photo, but those are harder to share.

Story Album can be really helpful in organizing your photos. After a shooting session it will prompt you to group all the new photos into an album. Albums can be created based on location, the people in the photo and when the shot was taken.

One of the best music players on a camera

The TouchWiz music player on the Galaxy S4 zoom is jam-packed with features and supports a wide variety of file formats, including FLAC (16 bit, not 24 bit), Wave, etc.
Music is sorted by the usual Artist, Album, Playlist, etc. but there's also Folder support, which is quite handy as it saves you the need to sort songs into playlists like on so many other players. There are more tabs available - you can hide or show tabs from the Settings menu.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom can also search for content on third party players like PCs on the same network.
Samsung has enabled equalizer presets (including a custom one with 7 bands) along with the sound-enhancing SoundAlive technology, which features 7.1 channel virtualization. Samsung uses SoundAlive in some of their MP3 and Android-powered media players. There's also Smart Volume, which equalizes the volume between tracks.

Awesome video player

The best video player found on smartphones just got better. The new video player, found on the Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom has the last watched video on top for quick access. Under it there are three tabs - personal (showing you the videos on your local storage), Download (which lets into the Videos store) and Nearby devices, which shows the PCs and players on your local Wi-Fi network.
The grid view is our favorite as it is a true quad-core tour de force - the visible video thumbnails are actually playing the videos instead of being static images. They play at a reduced framerate and generating those previews takes a couple of minutes the first time around, but it's an awesome preview and it shows what can be done when you have processing power to spare.

The video player lets you choose between three crop modes for how the video fits the screen. The same SoundAlive audio-enhancing technology is available here too. The video player lets you squeeze the best viewing experience out of the large, high-res screen. You can adjust video brightness, color tone and enable outdoor visibility too.
The chapter preview detects chapters in the video and shows a rectangular grid, with live thumbnails (just like the grid view above).
Pop up play is here too - it moves the video in a small floating window and you can use other apps on the phone while still watching the video. You can use pinch zoom to adjust the size of the video.

The Galaxy S4 zoom managed to play all files we threw at it. DivX and XviD along with MP4, AVI and MKV were no problem for the Galaxy S4 Active, though DTS and AC3 audio failed play.

Nicely smooth audio output

Despite the different chipset, the Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom didn't disappoint and matched the perfectly clean audio output of the rest of the Galaxy S4 family.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom had absolutely flawless output when connected to an active external amplifier, producing excellent scores all over the field. Its volume levels aren't the highest we have seen, but it should just fine for most users.
Impressively enough, there's next to no degradation when you plug in a pair of headphones. Save for the barely detectable (in the lab, let alone with a naked ear) hike in stereo crosstalk the output remains perfect. A really solid showing by the hybrid device here.
